Episode 1

Posted By: Shoju on October 6, 2002 10:41 P.M. (PST)

This episode starts off with a past scene where two brothers, Edward and Alphonse Elric, are messing with transmutation of the human body.  They really don't know what they are doing, and they pay dearly by having parts of their body severed completely.  The scene changes to some years later.  Al now wears a big suit of metal and towers over his older brother Edward.

They are wandering around a desert and find a town.  There, they learn about some guy who says that he is the representative of the Sun God Leto.  He is said to perform miracles, but when Edward watches his "miracles," he determines it is alchemy.  He does wonder how he can create something from nothing.

When they meet, Edward knows that his ring is how he can to transmutations.  The ring is the legendary Sorcerer's Stone, and Edward wants it.  Episode ends with Edward revealing to Roze his metal body parts.

Shoju's Rating: 10/10 - This just totally blew me away.  While magic series like Card Captor Sakura and Someday's Dreamer are fun to watch, they hardly capture magick like this anime has done in this episode.  I expect some good things from this anime.  ^_^

Episode 2

Posted By: Shoju on October 13, 2002 10:45 P.M. (PST)

The circumstances of Edward and Al's missing body parts is revealed.  They had lost their mother and had tried to resurrect her to see her smile.  The priest transmutates a gatling gun and tries to shoot Edward and Al, but Edward is able to transmutate a wall to block the shots.  Edward creates a door to escape into the town.  The priest goes on the radio and calls for the town's people to capture Edward and Al.  Edward is captured and Al is "destroyed" by statues.

Roze who believed that the priest had brought back her boyfriend goes to see him again.  This time she sees what it really was, a chimera.  The real Al saves her from the chimera and goes to finish the setup of the secret microphone.  The priest goes visits Edward in his cell and tells the truth that gets out to the towns people.  In the public, the priest tries to brush off the allegations by telling the people that Edward faked the whole thing and summoned some more statues to attack Edward.  Edward show the priest that he didn't need the medallion to amplify his alchemy power, and he summons a statue from within the church that's twice as big as the other statues.  He scares the shit out of the priest, and then the priest's arm mutates horribly.

Edward finds out that the Sorcerer's Stone the priest had was a fake.  Edward and Al talk later about how Edward thought he could have finally retrieved Al's body.  Roze comes to confront them about what does she have left to believe in.  Edward tells her to find out herself.  Al tells Roze about the path they walked on; so she might learn from their mistake.

The priest is seen talking with a lady, named Lust, with some short, fat, bald guy.  The priest ask her why she gave him a fake.  She says it was just to lure Edward and Al there.  Then the guy ask if he could eat him and does so.  Later the priest comes out and regains the people's trust by bringing back to life a few birds.  In reality, the guy has taken the priest body somehow.

Shoju's Rating: 9/10 - A little of their past was revealed.  A small taste of their power was shown.  I'm itching for them to show all of their power. ^_^
