Let's see.  A kid who has been driving long before he got his license, suddenly pops onto the street racing scene at 18 and dominates all.

Initial D is one of those rare anime where even if the concept doesn't interest you, you'll still like it.  I am a serious idiot when it comes to cars.  I hate ricers.  I find racing pretty boring.  All of this, and I still got into the anime.
When the manga finishes, they should animate the rest of the story because manga stills can't do the races justice.
