This site first came to exist for the sole purpose of having detailed
information on characters from Final Fantasy VII. Then it turned into
my own place to record my life on the web log page. I then just added
stuff that I wanted to record so I could read them again sometime later(Anime reviews of series and episodes, crappy fan fiction, quotes,
etc).
Currently, things that are updated: Anime episode reviews, the
occasional Anime series review, my web log, a quote every now and then, and
web test once in a while.
Why not just keep it as a personal webpage on my own
PC?
I thought that someone somewhere could find some of
what I have written useful in some way, and there have been a few people who
have contacted me and complemented me for one reason or another. ^_^
Only one has ever flamed me(by e-mail). I expected more in the two years I have
kept this thing running. >_>
Site History
When I first made the
site, I decided to name it Gaea. Gaea was the name of the world in the
Escaflowne TV series, and Escaflowne was high on my favorite Anime list at
the time.
The site was first on the American Tripod servers. Then
it moved to the U.K. Tripod servers and Netfirm servers. Finally, I got
money to get my own domain and server space. All the addresses with
Gaea had already been taken(the ones I wanted). I had to decide on a
new name and came up with a few: Desert Graveyard, Desert Coffin, and
Kitetsu. I had others, but these three were the ones I thought were
best of all the ideas. The first two are attacks that Gaara(Naruto)
uses. The third one is the name of Zoro's(One Piece) "evil" sword.
I finally decided on Desert Graveyard because it sounded best in my opinion.
What do you keep the message board for?
It's there in case there's actually someone who wants to request I write
up a certain review for some Anime (episode). The board doesn't
require registration to post so people are free to spam it with whatever.
What's with the layout?
I dislike
most super flashy sites actually. Bandwidth is obviously not a problem
for me. I just like to keep things simple. This place isn't
trying to win anyone's approval but my own. The actual layout is from
some free layout site. I have no idea where since it was so long ago
now.
Why do I always put two spaces after the end of every
sentence?
It's just a strange habit I have that derived
from my computer classes in high school.
Navigation Stuff
Navi Control is the
name I gave to the main set of links around the main site. Anime
reviews, Anime episode reviews, Final Fantasy VII character information.
Clicking on "Shoju's Section" will take you the the second set of links:
Scorpion Control. The "Other Stuff" will be linked sometime in the
future, and that leads to a third set of links for other stuff.
Scorpion Control is the name I gave to the set of links about my personal
stuff. Web tests I have taken, articles I've written, my outdated
profile on myself, and my favorite things.
When/if I ever get to it, Other Stuff will have it's own little set of links
to my "other stuff." My unfinished shrine to Ayumi-sama, my super
crappy fan fiction, and some other stuff I can't remember right now.
My Web Journal
If you look anywhere
on my ICQ or AIM profiles, you won't see a link to my web log. My web
log is really just for me, but if anyone actually wants to read it, they
can. I only submit the core of my site to search engines and Anipike.
Other than that, I really don't advertise much to anyone. I also have
my site listed in my Quote on my GameFAQs user profile. I want people
to wander into my site because they're looking for something that might be
here.
Stuff I Say
A lot of times I'll type
stuff saying that I'll do this and I'll do that, but I'm one hell of a lazy
bastard. I usually end up not doing something and doing other things
instead. As I type this, I have a huge back-log of Anime episode
reviews to write. So take anything I say with a grain of salt, and
feel free to flame me/pester me to do something if you actually want me to
do something.
Traffic and visitors
On the Tripod servers, my site just had one long ass history page with all
my old site news and web log on one page respectively. At that time,
my site wasn't using Iframes and everything was directly on the page.
After two years of running, those two pages got pretty big. Most of my
hits were because of those pages. Gaea recorded up to 100,000 hits,
and most of it was just because of those two pages that ended up on some
search results of someone who didn't search very well. Why or how I
still have hits now is just weird. There was a spike in traffic this
month (June 2004) because I recently submitted a link to a certain site that
involves pictures of a very nice and naked Lulu cosplayer. For the
other months, some have wandered in through Anipike or search results.
I don't really get much traffic now because I guess search engines can't
crawl very well through Iframes. I'm sure I would come up on much more
search results if every page of my site was searched through.
Here's a list of things I've said/I want to do at some
point in the future
To Do List:
Tenjou Tenge reviews
Write up a detailed information on Jenova and the Lifestream
Finish converting my Ayumi-sama shrine and fan fiction (The fan fiction
is actually partly done. I found someone trying to access it and
wondered who in the hell would actually want to read that, and it kind of
lit a fire in me to get it done.)
Start making an online manga (HAHAHA. Like I'm actually going to
make this happen.)
* - These items actually have a chance of getting done soon.
